Big Brutus Mineral City Kansas

Come along as we take a trip to Pittsburg Kansas.

We are going to See the big Coal Shovel, Name Big Brutus.

 Located just outside of Pittsburg Kansas.

The trip starts in Sedan Kansas, 

we traveled East on highway 166 to Highway 75 N.

the road takes us to Independence Ks, 

between Independence and Sedan is the Little House on the Prairie.

The Beautiful Waterfalls of South East Kansas

Today we will visit the Elk River Falls

Located on the Elk River, in Elk Falls Kansas.

When you approach the Falls you will be greeted by 

the Pratt Truss Bridge, It closed to vehicle traffic, but open to foot traffic.

This is the Plaque as you enter the bridge. 

Elk Falls is an easy drive from just about anywhere in South Central Kansas

From Wichita it's about one hr East on Highway 400

then South on Highway 99 to 160  then east on 160 to Elk Falls follow the signs to the bridge.

This abandon House set of off Highway 99 South of Moline Ks.

We drove to Sedan at least once a month for a number of years to visit grand Kids.

The first time I remember seeing this house it was still in fairly good condition

But as the years went by it slowing started deteriorating to the point where the earth finally reclaimed it. I am glad that I took this picture of it, because now it is gone.
